Asus Eee Box Mini PC Is Being Shipped With Virus
Some of Asus Eee Box desktop mini PCs have shipped with a virus, according to Asus who has recently released a warning in Japan. The company has only admitted the infection was present in machines shipped to Japan, but it seems that other territories may be affected too.
PC Advisor reports that according to an email sent out by Asus, the Eee Box’s 80GB hard drive has the recycled.exe virus files hidden in the drive’s D: partition. As soon as it’s opened, it begins copying itself to the main C drive and to any other removable drives or USB drives. Asus has so far provided no details about how the virus found its way on to the Eee Box, nor whether the version shipping in the UK is affected.
According to Symantec, the malware is likely to be the W32/Usbalex worm, which creates an autorun.inf file to trigger recycled.exe from D:.
